What are the safest and cleanest sources of energy?

Since the very beginning humans have found ways to power our lives. From humankind’s discovery of fire to the extraction of energy from fossil fuels, humans have sought numerous ways on how we could make our lives more productive and efficient.

However, as times went by the world became increasingly industrialized. Populations increased by the millions, technology evolved and the need for energy reached an all time high as we sought to enjoy the best living and working conditions of all time. And in the midst of all this is energy.

Unsurprisingly the center of what drives the modern world, energy is one of the most important facets of all our lives. And while the extraction of energy from fossil fuels has certainly taken the world leaps and bounds into the industrial future, it has also wrought numerous disadvantages.

Disadvantages of fossil fuels

Mainly the disadvantages and negative effects of fossil fuels revolve around its severe implications to the environment. From air pollution which claims the life of 5 million people every year to accounting for nearly 90% of greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuels have wreaked havoc on the environment. And thus in the long run are increasingly proving themselves to be a less sustainable source of energy.

Another significant disadvantage of fossil fuels lies in the fact that the use and implementation of them cause a number of accidents. These include but are not limited to accidents that occur in the mining and extraction process of the fuels. Such as coal, oil, gas, uranium and rare metals. The accidents are often caused during the transportation of the raw materials and/or infrastructure, however in some instances these accidents are also caused in the construction of the power plants or their deployment.

Safest and cleanest energy sources

However, on the other hand the world is not without alternatives. In fact in the modern world, there are now more than ever, a number of alternatives for non-renewable energy.

  • Nuclear energy

Contrary to popular belief, nuclear energy has been seen to generate far fewer deaths than its fossil fuel counterpart. However, nuclear gets a bad reputation from being used as a weapon of war. Whereas if used for the betterment of humanity, nuclear energy is statistically said to produce 350 times lesser deaths than that of coal.

  • Renewable energy sources

The popularity of hydropower and solar electricity have been on the rise. With many seeing the advantage in sustainable and long term renewable energy, the use of these methods has seen a steady increase in usage in the modern world. With almost no damage to the environment and drastically lower death toll, renewable energy sources seem to be the way of the future!
